Ships against the cloudy sky[i]
To the east I saw the moon just risen – an ominous orange color with a peculiar “white” taken out of it. (I learned the next day it was an eclipse).
Along the black murky streets, in the muddy slush – mud made me think of hepaticas
A peculiar phenomenon of the afternoon after I had my lunch – voices sounding quite close at hand revealed figures along the shore that seemed far away, yet they were startlingly large – in fact they looked like giants – at least three time the ordinary height of humans – I tried to reason with myself – told myself it was due to the atmosphere or some other circumstances, but even tho I knew it was so, I could not “shrink” them – they curved along the shore like prehistoric giants – the surrounding objects, the rocks and banks, appeared normal because even if larger than ordinary, they would not look unnatural. I have thought since it must have been the dense sunlit haze that caused them in “color” to look so far away while they were actually close at hand.
