pected her to be in a worse condition and was agreeably surprised – my heart went out to her at once – It seemed something unbelievable – it did not seem really true –; I went out for dinner – to telephone to Sides for my pay – & to send telegram home. The outdoors was wonderful – lawns spotted with dandelions the hot white sun beating down on the new downy foliage – It I thot (sic) new oakleaves (sic) were like our baby, then I thot (sic) of hypaticas (sic).; In the evening the baby first opened its eyes – at first timidly and then fully, & seemed to look around in wonderment – it was about then she first really grasped my finger – I could not watch her enough. ; I walked home – down Linwood ave – in the late twilight – under the new-foliaged trees – the moon – joy & happiness possessed me – was it really true I thot (sic) – the whole universe has taken on new beauty – I feel like dancing – shouting for joy.
