This image depicts a page from Volume 34 of Burchfield's personal journals. Volume 34 was written between October 13, 1920 - April 8, 1921. It is a handmade volume with cardboard covers, lined and unlined paper pages, many with pasted-in or taped-in entries written on smaller paper consisting of 66 pages originally fastened with brass fasteners. It contains sketches, magazine clippings of poems. Some entries are highlighted with red pencil. Some entries have been transcribed, copied or possibly edited at a later date (i.e. The text at the top of page 19 is covered with black ink lines to obscure the reading and a page written in later handwriting has been substituted.) A notation of page 33 is dated 1963.
