The other day as I went over to the Boat shop I saw Miller {?} with the gateman, Jim Norton, watching the construction of the new building. Formerly he was superintendant of the Boat shop generally held in awe on account of his somewhat morose aloofness. On account of the incompetency of old age, he was now reduced to passing his time in idle gossip with another “oldest employee”, one who had never been higher than his present status, while he, (Miller) had once been among the highest. His former stern reserve, was now replaced by an anxious desire to please all passerby.
