[inscription reads] " where I was afforded many unusual views of the flooded valley - High up on the hillside were ponds of water. / At Slanting meadows, looking down into Bottoms, which are a smooth expanse of water, thrilled me; on all sides trees & hills were softly dissolving into midair. Once I saw a red-bird, again, heard a chicadee. Once I saw a mosquito. / On the valley-sides here, the snow had melted to look like dappled clouds. / All along the hill I was steeped in the poetry of the bottoms - I will not soon "
