[inscription reads] " its call - the first I have heard this winter and on a rainy day! / Over hill to Painter Road. To Bridge at Dutchman’s. A wonderful sight - creek spread out over the fields almost up to Bridge - water swift, oily, seeming to boil up from below - a fine sight - the willows, deep in water swayed with the currents - some shook violently as if by some animal underneath the water. / Away from the creek proper the water seemed quite placid. North along bottom of Hill where the ground was soft "
