[inscription reads] " me to think that I never possess or enjoy that thing which I love, only know of it thru (sic) someone else. Such a thing is dewy-grass. I was reminded of it by looking at two shells which Louise found in a sponge. Seen in the gaslight they are covered with a myriad pin-point sparkles, which twinkle as I change the light by turning the shell. / I am slowly realizing that I will only be able to paint this landscape around here. "
