[inscription reads] " Sept 18, 1914 / A sound-laden morning. Whistles echoing & re-echoing, shivering across illimitable mist-spoked valleys. Air full of mist-spoked white haze which makes long aisles in trees wonderful. Dreamy. No coolth (sic) on the air. / Noon warm & oppressive. Sunlight bright. Katydids rife. / Recalling last night: Some people show the looseness of their life to such an extent that is more than disgusting - it is criminal. I like to see people content in all things "
