[inscription reads] " the sun has shown all day from a cloudless sky. Especially is this phenominal (sic) of the morning-glories, which fade early. At four they have commenced to wither. / There is a peculiar remoteness in the sunshine. Already trees shadows at noon almost equal their height. / Midday brings a tempering of the cold but the air is fresh. Whispy (sic) clouds whiten sky & dull the sunshine. / At 6:00 the suns ray are almost level & drive the shadows directly east. / Heard cicadas at noon the first for some time. "
