[inscription reads] " Blue jay screeched cleenkingly from little pear tree. Mother loves them. She was out in the yard first to see it. She says it is one of her desires to hold one alive in her hand. / After it flew away, from a distance came the cry that has given the bird the reputation of mimicking the hawk. I think it knows it is imitating the hawk as much as the viceroy butterfly knows its color & markings are similar to the monarch. / Morning glories & portulace are bright & fresh until three o’clock, altho (sic) "
