Hawthore meadow a wonder garden of color. The first two things we see are the brilliant yellow of goldenrod and its complement, ironweed. Looking closer we see yarrow (now turning brown and vervain. Penetrating deeper our wonder & admiration grows apace. Here is a veritable thicket of goldenrod, vervain, ironweed, boneset & meadowsweet from which proceeds the z-sound of katydids + hum of bees.(HT)As I was revelling in the sight, a sharp whirr of wings made me jump and I looked in time to see a woodcock
