[inscription reads] " man and a delicate retiring woman. The whole western sky is full of yellow light streaked by the distant falling rain, which catches & reflects the light again & again innumerably, against which stand the clawing trees, as black creatures. The sky overhead is torn. To the south the unillumined column of rain glows violet. AS I approach Hyland the wind arrives & then my soul is loosed. With a grand roar comes the wind out of the fulvous sky, whirling dust up to dim the air, but withal bringing "
