[inscription reads] " lower than the oatfield. / Coming around a curve of swamp I unawares come upon a bed of Hardy Phlox – and my soul soars. It is a queer feeling. For a moment we feel as tho (sic) we had blundered in upon some lady in her private bower – we are possessed with a sense of intrusion. / One is loath to leave such but wants to saturate his mind with that divine pink so that it might partake of some of their innocence & charm. / Birds find voices.
