[inscription reads] " I put hand in. I hesitate to touch all of eggs fearing to injure them but there must have been at least six. I take one out. It is about ¾” long and slate bluish white – almost white like the sky overhead, adding another peculiarity to make them birds of this season. The inside of the nest seemed to be composed of fine grass. / Flaky clouds have appeared. The sky shows a clear blue in places. / Redheaded woodpecker gives a fine rattling call from top of dead elm.
