[inscription reads] " felled, but two remaining. Scrub-elders & black-berry bushes take their place. This hedge divides a field of gloriously tasseled corn and a field of blue-green oats, beginning to ripen. – Past the field of corn are the three trees, beyond which is a wheat field. Flanking the other side of the oats field is another hedge also formerly a flourishing row of trees now razed. Scrub-wild cherry & elder berries (now beginning to turn, & black berries. In boyhood we named this hedge Thunderwoods, because one afternoon, when we had "
