[inscription reads] " a pink & violet glow. Its light comes down thru (sic) the trees & mingles with the blue haze that is arizing (sic) from the ground. The moon looks better seen thru (sic) a tree. Even in the winter it attains poetry seen thru (sic) the bare limbs of a tree. / A bat comes forth. Note one or two fire-flies. Crickets begin. Katydids. Hear several “Wee-wee-wee” of tree frogs (for such have I concluded them to be.) / Supper composed of westerners, which over, we set about preparing to return. Before starting to lift turtle lines, we throw two logs on fire "
