[inscription reads] " & yarrow. / Cicadas musical. / The creek bed here is chiefly of sand – fine clean firm sand which forms in bars in places. / At a point in the creek country boys have made a dam – rough stakes with boards nailed across them, backed by pile of sand. The dammed water appears lifeless and is covered with an oily appearing scum on which are moored buttonwood leaves. Where does this scum come from? – perhaps the minute particles of dust or pollen "
