[inscription reads] " Buttonwood, Slippery elm Red & Black & Green Ash. Cornel, Red Haw, Wild Plum Green Ash. / Already a bright green moss has appeared in the little pond observed last week even on the snail shells. On examining these I noted that all of them lie with the opening to the ground thus assuring the snail of keeping moist, so essential to the life of this water variety.
