[inscription reads] " And at noon from his perch on the telephone pole he sings almost without interlude. / What is it that awakens this instinct – a second brood or simply the joy of life? / Odd cloud formation. Three or four long feathery streaks whose ends converge at the north & south. The wind however is from the southwest. Probably an upper air current or perchance the wind has nothing to do with it. / At times a locust with his metallic song sifts the sun light thru (sic) the dusty on as of the trees, scattering "
