[inscription reads] " -pokes fly up & northward uttering their shrill & cries which seem to be uttered from deep in their throats. / Further along a still more advance stage may be observed. In another depression maggots have appeared. A slimy sticky sounds arises from their gooey wriggling bodies. A revolting sight, and thus is of of (sic) nature’s best things concealed in ugliness. / Pondlilies seeds scattering. The pods fall over in the mud which soon rots the casing and the seed ovular in shape & orange & extremely hard find the ground. "
