[inscription reads] " -wogs. / The miry bed of the pond yielded to my feet & gave forth a sticky bubbling sound. The surface of the water was broken by minute circles as in a shower. In a few day their bodies would be high & dry to be cooked by the sun. Without doubt sheitpoke was feasting on them when I came up. Thus is Nature inexorable. / Pond vegetation is dying. – the only remains are scraggly rusty pond lily leaves. But at once a new life asserts itself.
