now, when most other plants are fading is young and fresh. Were it not for heavy frosts I believe they would be perpetual for even now, berries are ripening and blossoms are just coming out. False Bitter-Sweet, is on this order.
Sunflowers are all gone to seed, and the heavy seed-discs, drooping face to ground, seem like miscreant school-boys hanging their heads in shame.
The glitter of sunlight on flies as they squat on sun-warmed leaves is beautiful.
A black wasp hunting for spiders affords interest. His bright orange antennae balance perfectly the orange bands on his long limp hanging hind-legs.
White cabbage-butterflies abound and dart aimlessly hither and thither.
Lambs quarters weeds, with their prolific bunches of knotty seed clusters, abound in our yard as do also bristly amaranthus weed.
