This was a broiling hot day. There is nothing invigorating about these September days. The night brings little relief and the mornings dawn sultry -
The morning was rendered memorable by the warble of a house-wren; and the half-pitiful, half-rollicking, song of a yellow bird.
Evening was notable for a long flock of black-birds that twinkled silently across the sky from the rose-gold sunset towards the twilit east.
