I don’t know how he guessed that we had company, but he did ask me then. I said yes of course and then asked him to come over and go along with us. He said he couldn’t come if we had company and hung up. Later Frances said that she didn’t think I sounded very cordial, and so I went over after him. With Little persuasion I got him to clean up and come along.
As we were going down Vine St. we were surprised to see a sky-rocket burst in the sky. Then Joe explained that it was the Hospital Committee stirring up enthusiasm for the money campaign and I must admit that it was a good way. The rockets were a wonderful sight - I cannot remember ever having seen such remarkable effects.
