hither and thither in the clear water. This gave Bill the idea of snoodling for fish in the larger creek, and he determined to ask Tom for some wire.
The frozen earth had begun now to melt, and as we went up a little lane, we had a hard time keeping out of the mud. But we soon arrived at the barn, where at first only a sheppard dog came to greet us, but as we went on towards the house, someone hailed us and turning around we saw Tom and another brother. They were in another part of the barn grinding grain; when we came up they were waiting for the cylanders of their engine to cool off. Presently they started up, and the explosions which were unusually loud, soon drove us out outside. We watched them until they they had finished grinding, when Bill procured some wire, with which he made a little noose. They found a regular snoodle hook up at the house which King tied on the end of a string. With these fishing tools, we left, as Tom and his brother had other work to do.
The sun was warmer now and the ground was soft and mery. We picked our way along a lane to a field where it was some drier. Over this we ran, and coming to a long
