while it did not strictly belong to the rush proper, was nevertheless the direct result of the rust and of a new plan of ours to put our colors up. The adventure, by the way, did not yet add any glory to our name.
We had heard of how the colleges they put up a metal pennant, + we tried to think of something of the same kind. Finally, after much brain-racking pondering, we thought of a good scheme, but were at a loss to find material for it. Our scheme was to get a large tin disc, and paint on both sides on a green background, large yellow numbers to the effect: ‘ 11. But we had no idea where to get a tin. Someone suggested a lid of a large lard bucket; this would do but none of us
