113. look of the wieners, and the expression on the boy’s face seemed something whole & completely satisfying and desirable, as if some deep elemental human quality –
wind & blizzardy (sic) snow storms all day yesterday & today – working in studio on the Steuben ville (sic) street scene –
February 6, 1936-
A.M. walk –
A cold elastic wind out of the S.W. blows over the “ice-locked earth” – cottonwoods, Saplings, sunlit, gleam brilliantly yellow against the deep cobalt sky.
February 16, 1936-
While lying in bed this morning, I called Arthur’s attention to the deep rumbling sounds that seem to come from the center of the earth at this time of year – he listened a bit, then asked what caused them – I told him it was giants down in the earth, grinding coffee, and he laughed until he was helpless.
Crows have been cawing for several mornings past – I never hear them except at sunrise.
About 5:00 PM. B&I for walk to dam. A cold evening, with fine snow falling from the N.E. We noticed how oddly sharp the finest branches of trees & bushes were etched against the sky, even tho it was snowing and twilight coming on,
