Heavy rain all day, driven by cold gusty winds from the east; last on into the night, with the temperature about 36, all the time. –
Working all day on the Elevators picture. There is something about them that makes me think of the Ark – I liked to imagine that today we were in the midst of the 40 day rain.
May 4, 1935-
The rain subsides; morning cold & dark with ragged skies. To Elevators to get impressions – work till after twelve.
P.M. Rather aimless – weeded flower garden under pines. It felt just right- and afterwards, I sprinkled rotten woods on it.
I came out of the studio at twilight – the shy to the west was a clean watery blue, colored at the horizon by the afterglow; low down were some cool gray bars of clouds, all that remained to of the Eastern storm – Rather high up hung, almost inverted, the first narrow sliver of the moon and higher yet, Venus.
