60.) I have spent the last few weeks on frames for some of my 1920 sketches. At the same time I have gone thru my 1918 things.
Yesterday in to lunch with E. Dickinson who is living with his family in a little cottage on the Sawyer place, and using the Sawyer studio. – He showed me some of his recent work.
Sat – Mar – 2, 1935 -
A.M. all to Buffalo – Bertha & three oldest to Great Lakes – Catherine, Arthur & I to Harbor – at Evans elevators – lucky enough to see a loaded grain barge put into motion by a tug, and the whole operation of the grain being sucked up into an elevator – looking a boat “the Harry Yates” – a chunky good natured man gives us permission to come on board – have to climb long ladder - the children are somewhat scared, but bravely climb – walk all over boat – men riveting –
Drive down to D. L&W Station & thence to Island at foot of Michigan – then out to Lackawanna & then up to theater to get rest of family.
Bertha talks so much about “The Scarlet Pimpernel” that I had to go, in the evening to see it. A very tense, well done picture, which I enjoyed as completely as anything I’ve seen for a while.
