Julie York makes ceramic casts of familiar objects from popular culture, many of them toys and dolls that had originally been mass-produced. Her work reflects her concern with society’s concept of beauty, fashion, desirability, and the pressure on young girls and women to conform to unrealistic, pre-conceived notions of an ideal.
