These words are embroidered on the sculpture's suggestively flayed rabbit forms. In more contemporary versions of this nursery rhyme, the word “(blanket)” is sometimes added to the lyrics after “rabbit skin.” The implied violence of the lyrics is precisely what disturbed artist Sharon McConnell, who, like many women, was questioning the appropriateness of content in “traditional” nursery rhymes and children’s stories—with the goal of protecting their young children from content that was not nourishing or aligning with their social values.
