On the back of this drawing Burchfield wrote that this was “an ‘idea’ note, made for a large water-color still in progress.” Warm, yellow-rimmed wind currents coat a massive tree trunk, as well as touseled wildflowers and a field of dried grasses in his 1963 watercolor, also called September Wind. — Nancy Weekly
