Trained originally in commercial art, design and sculpture, Booth derives many of his forms from architectural restorations. He says of his work, “It is not about ‘meaning’ in a literal sense, and should not be construed as metaphor.” Booth’s sculpture is not a story, narrative, fantasy, or social comment, instead it is simply a study in design and the interplay of shapes. The variety and juxtaposition of forms are what give the piece its interest. Booth is currently Professor of Art at SUNY College at Fredonia. —Joan Vita Marotta, 2002
