Frank Romanelli (1909-1974)

This is possibly a depiction of Job, the central figure of the Book of Job in the Christian Bible. In Islam, Job is also considered a prophet. According to biblical story, the devil tested Job’s faith in God by making him undergo numerous disasters, including taking away his family and wealth and causing him to suffer from diseases, such as depicted in Romanelli’s print. Ultimately, Job’s faith did not waver despite serious hardships.
