Gift of the Charles E. Burchfield Foundation, 1975
Burchfield originally created this imaginative painting in 1919. When his dealer expressed a negative opinion about his series of paintings on life from the perspective of birds, Burchfield destroyed the works. Later, in 1963, regretting his youthful actions, he recreated some of the works, including New Life, because it heralds the rejuvenation of life in spring. — Nancy Weekly
