Known formally as Mrs. Charles Cary, the artist Evelyn Rumsey Cary (1855-1924) illustrated The Spirit of Niagara as an elegant woman in her design for the official Pan-American Exposition poster. She played a prominent role in organizing the Exposition in 1901. She served on the Executive Committee of the Board of Women Managers and chaired its Fine Arts Committee.
