Thinking of our friend and patron, Sylvia L. Rosen, born on this day in 1919... She was a formidable force in support of “fine art in craft media”—especially ceramics, which she felt deserved more attention in museums. This motivated her, with her husband Nathan, to create an endowment that enables the Burchfield Penney Art Center to purchase artworks from our biennial exhibition they made possible. She also was an advocate for women in the arts, determined to see them recognized for their achievements. Today, as I think about her generosity that encouraged and boosted so many people, I am grateful for our warm and decades-long friendship.
