Fall Family Day Highlights:
“Healing Arts was created 11 years ago to provide pediatric patients and families with peace and to help alleviate anxiety through art and programming,” shares Cynthia Ciminelli, Volunteer Chair of OCH Healing Arts and Board Member of Burchfield Penney Art Center. “It represents our incredible local WNY artists, cultural organizations, community partners, donors, and the amazing team members at OCH and BPAC who help transform the hospital environment through art. Scott [Propeack] connected us with local artists to create spaces filled with community-themed art that reflects Western New York. At Family Day, families will preview what has always been our mission: bringing artwork to every pediatric outpatient clinic. Art is healing, and we are deeply grateful for the OCH Signature artists and collaborators like DJ Milk, who bring moments of joy through music, art, and programming.”
“OCH recognizes that one of the greatest strengths of our region is our arts, says Burchfield Penney Executive Director and OCH Co-Curator Scott Propeack. Working with co-curator Cynthia Ciminelli, we’ve understood that by bringing organizations like OCH and the Burchfield Penney together, we can create opportunities for others. Our partnership with Hyatt’s makes all of this possible.”
“The arts have had such a positive effect on the patients and staff in our hospital,” Stephen Turkovich, MD, president, Oishei Children’s Hospital said. “And they’re everywhere you look: the hand-picked art displayed in every hallway, the Artists in Residence that engage our patients in therapeutic art, and even community organizations that have volunteered their time to perform in the hospital. All of these creative expressions have shown their ability to relieve stress, reduce the perception of pain, and do so much for our patients during their time at OCH. We couldn’t be more excited to partner with Burchfield Penney Art Center and Hyatt’s All Things Creative as we raise awareness for the amazing healing power of the arts!”

About the Healing Arts Program at Oishei Children’s Hospital
Art is life. It promotes introspection and can even have a deep positive impact on health outcomes in a clinical setting. The Healing Arts Program at Oishei Children's Hospital (OCH) aims to provide pediatric patients and their families with the positive effects of art through integrated cultural collaboration and hands-on programming. This program relies on the generosity and philanthropic support of the community to curate and maintain the Healing Arts Collection and to provide patients and families with arts and cultural experiences as part of the healing process.
All of the artwork at OCH is carefully selected by the Healing Arts Subcommittee, a collection of clinical, non-clinical and administrative staff, as well as local community members with a deep appreciation for art. The Healing Arts Subcommittee ensures that every piece of art is appropriate for the space and safe for patients to be around.
