Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), Midsummer in the Woods, 1951-1959; watercolor, charcoal, and chalk on joined paper, 40 1/4 x 30 1/4 inches; Private Collection
A sunny windy day- leaves fluttering over Cottrells’ lawn.
At one, I dressed and we went to the South-gate Plaza. Lunch at “Your Host”, after which B did some food shopping while I waited in the car.
When we came home I went out to the Studio for a brief visit- There I noted that Bertha, in showing some pictures to Catherine, had found the missing 1952- “Midsummer in the Woods”
I studied the October picture on the easel a few moments. I felt as though I could have worked on it right then, but prudently went back to the house. (Evening- Tricks or Treats children- Mart & Ms. Swanson (Marcus’ mother) in for a chat.
