A hot day. Slight breeze - N.W. Sky a healthy opaque blue. Parched white clouds. Morning glories at sound end of house a mass of brilliant red and violet and blue. At noon hear first locust (cicada) of the kind that sings in a crescendo. The raspberry crop is about over. Fred on a trip to the wood bring, home the first blackberries & huckleberries. Close of day brings clearing of sky. Air cools. See three chimney swifts fly past overhead, uttering a rapid chippering cry. Evening dampishly cool.
