B & I to Gowanda & Big Woods –
A brilliant sunny day – a feeling of early March.
Stopped at Taylor’s to order maple syrup. (She said they would probably tap about March 1-)
To Gowanda – to Gowanda Hotel for lunch. A good dinner (I – wieners & [sauerkraut], B – chicken plate – we shared each others’) – Our waiter a short stocky man, very friendly – we enjoyed ourselves thoroughly when we came out – the two buttonwoods by the hotel in full sunlight – full of “button-balls” – very beautiful against the deep blue sky –
To the big woods – completely mid-winter in the woods, - the snow so pure and white – the tops of beeches against the sky rich carmine with white branches – the rich olive green tones of hemlocks.
Home by 18-A – again it seemed like early March.
