A thunderstorm tonight – it reminds me of God and the dignity of life. If it is the aim of man to become like God, he must add dignity & grandeur to his life. On a bicycle ride tonight, I went down a dark asphalt street that was dusty & uneven & for a minute, I was reminded of a small town near Salem, whose main street was packed with cinders, & of dark summer evenings going along this road – and a terrible wave of homesickness swept over me.
