A dream fragment – of finding great quantities of white dog-tooth violets growing on a bank; and again of wandering down the “Egypt” road at twilight – a strong autumn wind was drawing rain out of the southwest – the air was filled with enormous oak leaves, rich glossy browns, and red browns.
A bitterly cold day – strong wind out of east – sketch of trees in front of Lutheran church – the cold almost more than I can endure –
P.M. More studies, then B & I to funeral for Mrs. Holdermiller at the Elma church.
Afterwards to Lancaster to exchange Arthur’s cap & mittens (gift of Mrs. Shaffer which were both too small and inappropriate) for a tie and a red & black plaid cap such as all the boys are wearing, (When I was in the 8th grade, the current fad was blue flannel shirts with red ties) –
Then to Buffalo to get frame for the “Market at Christmas” – Frame not ready for a half-hour, so we went to the market, and then to the “Mayflower” for coffee and doughnuts.
Evening play games with Sally and Art.
