Cult cartoonist Spain Rodriguez has died, aged 72.
The underground graphic novelist passed away at his home in San Francisco on Wednesday, Nov. 28, following a lengthy battle with cancer.
After landing a job at New York's East Village Other newspaper, he created his own superhero, Trashman, in the late 1960s, which garnered a cult following. The series ran until 1985.
Longtime friend and fellow cartoonist Ron Turner told his fans of Rodriguez's death, saying, "It is with great sadness that I inform you of the passing this morning of Spain Rodriguez. He passed at home with his daughter and wife at his bedside... He had been fighting cancer for a long time. He was a wonderful father, husband, and friend. His art challenged, changed and enlightened and entertained us for over five decades."
