Nov. 5 – Sun.
Not so cold – partly cloudy –
Communion Sunday –
Home and a light lunch, planning to go to Chestnut Lodge later in the afternoon –
Bertha writing letters – I to studio, to put my journal in order. I had not been there long until Mart + Hank came out – They had rung the doorbell but got no answer, so concluded we were in the studio – After we discussed the Whortman paper, to the house – They could not stay long.
After they left I stretched out on the reclining chair, while Bertha continued writing – I got in a little nap, but presently the phone rang – It turned out to be a Dr. Frederick Stone – he said Paul Sample had suggested they call on us sometime – I missed the “Paul” and thought they were friends of James Sample of Erie – we told them to come ahead, altho B. warned them we had to leave by 5:00 for a dinner engagement.
They turned out to be a charming interesting couple. I think their visit was partially as a preliminary to buying a picture – I told him I no longer sold pictures from the studio, but they would welcome to visit the studio sometime. Before the left, Mrs. S (on an impulse I am sure) invited us to dinner next Sunday, and we accepted.
After they left, to Chestnut Lodge – The place was almost full, but we got a table – after that they were standing in line –
A delicious dinner as usual (I ordered broiled pork-chops + Bertha chicken livers sauté and then we shared our meals) –
Evening as usual spent with TV + cards.
