P.M. – Out painting – A mild partially cloudy day – A hard time “leaving the world behind” – eventually stopped on the Three-rod Rd. Just north of Bullis. — Aiming at expressing a November Sun “fighting” with cloud bars – or what I call, the winged’ November sun bursting over the landscape — with goldenrod in the foreground. Slow getting into it; but as the afternoon wore on, the mood increased and developed. At the last, when the sun was just setting, & I had done all I could, the sun beautiful behind a group of black willows, with each fuzzy goldenrod plume surrounded by a golden halo.
