Charles E. Burchfield (1893-1967), Transition: Fall to Winter, 1949; watercolor with gouache, graphite and ink on paper, 16 x 48 inches; Addison Gallery of American Art, Phillips Academy, Andover, MA, gift of Zelda L.M. and I. Arthur Schneiderman, 1998.82
Painting frames – studying various picture ideas in studio — particularly some ideas in crayon & pencil made in September 1917 – which suggested more ideas at once.
Evening – to Albright Gallery for the 1st Quarterly Directors dinner – a formal affair. Dinner very good – most of the “business” boring, but the men pleasant & agreeable. The main purpose of these meetings seems to be social. All decisions have been made beforehand, officers agreed upon. Really a waste of my time.
