A.M. working in studio on the 1917 group – while Bertha & Peggy cleaned the upstairs.
About noon we head south for the country – A cloudy day, strong s.w. very mild – a wonderfully exciting day.
We stopped at the restaurant at the junctions of 219 & the Zoar Valley Road. Our order was taken promptly, but then we waited and waited – The waiter, a young man had no system – finally after a half-hour, when he served a soup course to a couple who had come in after us, we got up and left in a huff.
To a restaurant in Springville – where an elderly lady waited on us with dispatch.
We proceeded then through the Zoar – a romantic fairyland like drive.
Stopped and strolled in the woods after listening to the Schubert Ninth from Toronto.
A joy to once again to be in an autumn woods – It is not enough to remember past experiences. The smells are not in the mind, or the rustle of the southwest wind in the fallen leaves and trees. It occurs to me that new fallen leaves are more beautiful than when they are on the trees.
Westward to Gowanda, where we had tea at the Palm Gardens.
Home by way of the Taylor Hollow Rd. (which branches to the right from Rte. 39 & connects with the Hamburg-Gowanda Rd. near Taylor’s grove.
Evening spent with TV and cards.
Evening music – Vaughan-Williams English Suite & Norfolk Rhapsody and Beethoven’s Seventh -
