September 28 – Saturday –
Started a painting in the studio – based on a note which I called “September Cliff” but in this painting the cliff was eliminated and it has a moonlight (not day time) effect, with moonlight elms, and asters, goldenrod, etc. – Did not get it finished –
Evening to E.L.’s [Edna Lindemann, Burchfield Penney Art Center's founding director] home in West Falls for a faculty dinner. A beautiful spot, and home – a good dinner, and a very enjoyable time – I found an opportunity to talk to Dr. Bulger about the nature of my “appearances” at the College – I felt better about it after talking to him –
