Benefit concert for Claudia Hoca is Friday in the Burchfield Penney by Mary Kumz Goldman in the Buffalo News
Buffalo’s music community has rallied behind pianist Claudia Hoca, who was injured in a car accident in August. She is reportedly making a good recovery, but is not yet back on her feet. The benefit will help defray her medical expenses. Hoca was well known as a staff pianist with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, but her position was not full-time and she had no health insurance.
The benefit concert is at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Burchfield Penney Art Center. Musicians contributing their talents include pianists Ana Vafai, Michael McNeill and Alison D’Amato; cellist Jonathan Golove; violinists Amy Glidden, Charles Castleman and Antoine Lefebvre; violist Valerie Heywood; oboist Pierre Roy; and clarinetist John Fullam. They will be performing music by Mozart, Debussy and Bartok, among other composers. The concert ends with music by Argentinian tango master Astor Piazzolla performed by the Camerata di Sant’Antonio, the chamber orchestra of St. Anthony’s Church, conducted by Christopher Weber.
Tickets are $35, or $50 for Angel Seating, or prime seating. A $20 ticket allows the patron to view the concert on simulcast from the reception area. Call 878-6011.
